וַיִּקְשֹׁ֤ר עָלָיו֙ שַׁלֻּ֣ם בֶּן־יָבֵ֔שׁ וַיַּכֵּ֥הוּ קָֽבָלְ־עָ֖ם וַיְמִיתֵ֑הוּ וַיִּמְלֹ֖ךְ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃
And Shallum the son of Jabesh conspired against him, and smote him before the people, and slew him, and reigned in his stead.

And struck him before the people. [Targum Yonoson renders,] he struck him before the people [i.e.,] before the eyes of the people.8קבל in Aramaic means opposite, i.e., he struck him opposite the people.—Metzudas Tzion
